Pain Management
At Action Plus Physiotherapy we base our pain management intervention on the latest available pain research. We assist clients to recognize when they may not necessarily be capable of reducing chronic pain, that they can learn strategies to increase their present activity level while keeping their symptoms “in check”. In order to assist a client in resuming personal care, home management, and employment activities, an Occupational Therapist can offer pain management intervention. Depending on the client’s presenting issues this may include: education regarding proper use of posture and body mechanics, education regarding energy conservation, pacing, joint protection, relaxation techniques, provision of adaptive equipment, education regarding adaptive techniques, and assistance developing a plan to gradually increase an individual’s activity level. We believe the concept of self efficacy remains central to a successful pain management outcome: if a patient does not hold the belief or confidence that they can improve beyond their current status, then physicians and rehabilitation providers must first attempt to uncover potential underlying reasons for their lack of confidence.
